A tailor-made pension and our commitment to Jersey

In recent years we have become concerned by the lack of participants in the local pensions and annuities market. We noticed that Jersey people had a worrying lack of choice in both provider and product.

We began to develop a range of pensions that are exclusively for Jersey residents. We launched Avanchi - The Jersey Pension Plan in August 2006. It's a development which represents Baker Tilly Channel Islands' continued expansion and long-term commitment to the Island.

Clients have responded very well to Avanchi - it's tailor-made for Jersey people who demand complete transparency, control and flexibility over their pension arrangements.

The technical detail explained

Technically speaking, Avanchi ICC is a limited company incorporated in Jersey with certain rights to establish separate cells.

Each cell is a legally separate company and is ring-fenced from all the other cells.

To set up your pension we start by establishing a cell, know as an Incorporated Cell or "IC", within Avanchi on your behalf.

The IC then enters into a Retirement Annuity Contract (RAC) with you.

Under the terms of the RAC, you make contributions to your IC which then invests these contributions on your behalf.

The contributions you make are tax deductible (subject to certain limits), the overall objective being to build a fund which will provide you with an income during your retirement.

There are a number of options open to you at that time, depending on the legislation and practice in place at the time. Our advisers will explain these options to you in person.

Your contract is also segmented, allowing you to phase your retirement if required.
